It’s been 30 years since World Vegan Day was launched by The Vegan Society right here in the UK, and ever since, veganism has become a global phenomenon.

There’s about 2.5 million vegans in the UK, and Manchester has become a hub of plant-based food, with an insane variety of cuisines and options available... right on your doorstep.

So take a seat, because I’m going to give you a bit of an exclusive (if you can’t be bothered to sift through google reviews), and share with you my top 5 BEST Vegan restaurants in Manchester!

Vegan Shack – One Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester M1 1RG

Shopping on Market Street this World Vegan Day? Located just stone’s throw away at the heart of town in Piccadilly Gardens, you can find Vegan Shack, serving up mouth-watering fast food that could make even the most insatiable foodie shut up.

Open from 9 AM until 7 PM most days, think McDonald’s- but vegan. With a crazy list of options, we recommend the tater tots and milkshakes. Definitely could be a shout for this year’s World Vegan Day.

Purezza – 75-77 High St, Manchester M4 1FS

If you fancy pizza with a side of sustainability, look no further than Purezza – an ALL-vegan Italian joint in Northern Quarter, just a walk away from Shudehill station.

With heaps of ambiance, Purezza is a perfect place to take a partner or your mates, and shock them with the quality of their plant-based meals!

They open from 12pm to 10pm most days, but if you get there before 5pm, you can take advantage of their lunch deal – any 7” pizza, a small plate and a drink for just £15.

We totally recommend the courgetti spaghetti!

The Eighth Day Shop & Café – 111 Oxford Rd, Manchester M1 7DU

To spite the haters that claim that the only food vegans can eat is salad and tofu, The Eighth Day Shop & Cafe offer up some incredible heart-warming cafe food downstairs and have a selection of veggie groceries too!

‘From grains & pulses, baking essentials & cooking oil, spices & herbs to teas, coffee & cocoa, if it’s veggie or vegan, then we probably have it’ in their own words.

Situated on Oxford Road, their shop and cafe are open 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM 6 days a week (closed Sunday). We’ve been told their Mumbai Triangles are a must try!

Wholesome Junkies – Hinterland Bar, 16-20 Turner St, Manchester M4 1DZ

Featured on Netflix and the BBC, this establishment’s award-winning burgers could be the way to go this World Vegan Day. Despite their claims to fame though, their prices are fairly reasonable- you can get a burger and chips for £12 on their new Lunch Menu 12 PM to 5 PM.

They open from 12 PM to 9 PM most days, and we recommend their burgers (duh!). But if you head over on a Sunday, they have just started serving up a plant-based sunday roast which looks divine!

Vegan Green Kitchen Chinese – Unit D Pod 12 Aldow Enterprise Park, Blackett St, Manchester M12 6AE (takeaway)

Fancy a cheeky takeaway this World Vegan Day? You absolutely have to try Vegan Green Kitchen. Serving up all the classics, from Chow Mein to Sweet and Sour Chicken, you can barely tell that it’s vegan!

Especially great if you’re looking for something later in the day than the rest on this list, as they’re open from 3 PM until 11 PM. You have to try their Duck Pancakes (they will blow your mind).

So there’s no excuse! Put World Vegan Day in your calendar right now! Without doubt, Manchester’s vegan restaurants will have plenty of grub to go around so why miss out? We hope you find your new favourite plant-based spot on the 1st!
