Rebecca Long-Bailey came in to chat to the Student Officers about what matters most to students ⚡️
Last week we had the great honour of having Rebecca Long-Bailey come in and chat to your Student Officers and we want you guys to know what went down! Rebecca is very keen to learn and listen to student concerns and talk about the key issues.
Is there anything we missed? Do you think there's more information MP's need to know about issues for students?

Housing Issues
We discussed The Renters’ Rights Bill this includes amendments that limit landlords to requesting only one month's rent upfront. However currently, international students are often required to pay significantly more before arriving in the UK. We discussed the goal being to introduce flexibility in payment structures. A main concern of this issue falls under legislation, some students are being asked to pay 12 months rent upfront, way above the limit set in the The Renters' Rights Bill.
We have previously lobbied in Parliament for no more student guarantors, sharing personal experiences of struggling to secure accomation. Read more about this work here.
We discussed some students having to live with their parents due to riding accomadation costs, and the issue of landlords asking students to vacate premises during the summer. Creating issues for students who work or don't have a local family home to go to.
Housing Help
If you require help with any of the above or any housing issues your SU offers Housing Advice. Find out more here.
