Want some resolutions that you'll ACTUALLY stick to?! Look no further...

As the year draws to a close, it brings with it the familiar tradition of setting New Year’s Resolutions.

But let’s be honest—these can be tough to stick to, and are often completely forgotten about by March.

That’s why we’ve put together a list of more realistic New Year’s Resolutions to help you stay on track all year long!

Skip Treadmill Regrets... Join a Sports Club! 🤾

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is: “I’m going to start going to the gym every day.” But let’s be honest—we all know how that usually ends. After a month of gym visits, by March, you’ll probably be looking up how to cancel your membership...

So, why not try something different this year and join a sports club instead?

With set training times and the chance to meet new people, you’re far more likely to stick with it!

At Salford, we have a wide range of sports clubs to choose from, including cheerleading, archery, netball, and more. Check them out here: Salford SU Sports.

The best part? You can even attend taster sessions to try them out first: Salford SU Taster Sports. Why not give it a go?

Ditch the Diets... Learn some Recipes! 🌮

Another popular resolution goes along the lines of wanting to eat healthier, or completely transform your diet.

But let’s be realistic—overhauling your entire diet can feel overwhelming. You’d need to change your entire shopping list and learn a ton of new recipes all at once...

Instead, why not take a gradual approach by introducing a couple of new dishes each week or month? 👇

Skip Big Trips... Discover Nearby Gems! 💎

If one of your goals this year is to travel and explore more, it’s easy to feel discouraged by the high costs and compromises that big trips often require.

But what if you could fulfill your sense of adventure without leaving your city? Try planning bi-weekly outings to discover new spots around town—places you’ve never visited or have been meaning to try!

This way, you can satisfy your craving for exploration without waiting all year for that one big trip. (And, of course, you can still take that big trip too—this just helps you feel like you’ve traveled more throughout the year!)

Not sure where to start? Check out some of our videos for ideas! Whether it’s exploring vegan food spots or diving into the city’s museums, there’s plenty to discover right here on your doorstep... 👇

Spend Less Time Online... Socialise More! 🗣️ 💬

You might have set a goal to spend less time on social media this year... but we all know how challenging this can be, especially when we rely on it for updates about the world, our surroundings, and even to stay connected with friends and family!

So rather than trying to cut out social media entirely, a more manageable approach is to replace it with something meaningful.

Want to stop yourself from falling into a 3-hour TikTok scroll? Get stuck into a book you've been dying to read, and think about starting a book club! Worried about spending too much time on Instagram? Invite some friends over for a catch-up!

This way, you’ll strike a better balance by connecting with the people and the things you care about in person rather than solely online. And even if these interactions are planned through digital channels, they’re far more rewarding than endless scrolling and will help you stick to your goal.

And there you have it—simple, realistic ways to help you achieve your New Year’s resolutions and make them easier to stick with this year!
