Role Title: Social Prescribing Student Staff

Time Commitment: 5 hours per week during term time (Jan 2025 - May 2025)

Pay: £12.00 per hour

Reporting to: Wellbeing Coordinator

 

What will you be doing?

In this role you will: 

  • Regularly communicate with students that you will be supporting. This will take place both on online (video calls and chat) and in person
  • Support and help students who are struggling with loneliness, isolation/low-risk mental health challenges improve their wellbeing in a non-medical, holistic way.
  • Discuss, research, plan and signposting to activities, events or opportunities that will improve their wellbeing (such as SU sport and other activities).
  • When required attend activities, events or opportunities with the students you support.
  • Build and maintain a good working knowledge of Salford SU and the services we offer.
  • At all times demonstrate a commitment to professionalism, respect, and confidentiality in your work.
  • Research ideas and opportunities for students both within and outside of the University of Salford and to think creatively and openly about what students might be interested in.
  • Regularly provide feedback and updates to the Wellbeing Coordinator to monitor impact and improve the service.
  • Attend any meetings and complete any other tasks as directed by the Wellbeing Coordinator.

This role is intended to provide peer-to-peer support only, and Student Staff cannot provide advice to students. All our student staff will receive training to enable them to fulfil the role, including wellbeing and signposting training. Students applying must be currently enrolled on a course at the University of Salford. This is a paid role. Social Prescribing Student Staff are required to commit to a minimum of 5 hours per week.

  • are current University of Salford Students (Undergraduate or Postgraduate)
  • are willing to attend activities, events or opportunities (such as SU sport - all abilities welcome!)
  • have good communication and listening skills
  • have great organisation and time management skills
  • are interested in the role and want to learn
  • feel comfortable and confident working with potentially vulnerable students
