Frequently Asked Questions

Are any of the sessions gender neutral?

Open gender/non-specific ones are Archery, Roller Skating, Badminton, Volleyball, Handball and Ultimate Frisbee.

Do I need to bring anything to sessions?

For most things it's dress in non-restrictive clothing that you can move in. No loose slip-on shoes, they need to be able to tighter around the feet so they don't slip off.

Archery - arm movement required, so dress accordingly.

The footballs and the rugby bring layers as these are outside and trainers/football boots are required.

Ultimate frisbee - if you plan on doing layouts, long shorts or pants required, but if you're new and don't plan on diving for the frisbee, whatever you're comfortable with.

Is it possible to come every week?

You can come every week, or come once and never come again if they don't like it, there's no commitment necessary! If you can come for the whole session, then please do, for team continuity during the session, but people can arrive late or leave early.

Are put on by the clubs and is any prior experience required for any?

Some sessions are ran by members of the club, some are ran by students. It is helpful if you know the rules beforehand but not essential - but we suggest students do a brief search of the sport so they know what’s involved (e.g., rugby is going to involve a lot of physical contact that could be off putting for some students). If you have any of their own personal equipment you want to use e.g. your own skates, we ask you do bring them as it creates the opportunity to have more people involved. You don't have to have played before though - beginners are definitely welcome!

I have an idea for another Sport Taster session

If you have any ideas you want to share with the team, please email: su-sport@salford.ac.uk.

Additionally, we would potentially like to start up a men's lacrosse team so if there's a group of students interested please email us and we can look into starting that!
