Groups can book rooms in University House and across the University to use for their activities and events. To request to book a space, please submit the below form.

Please note: we require at least 3 working days to process bookings and cannot always guarantee your preferred space. If your event involves a large number of people, serving food, or complex set up please give 3 weeks notice.

Student Societies and Clubs should make the Student Opportunities Coordinator aware of their event before making a room booking request.

Sports and societies may also need to complete the Events Form if needed and if wanting to book within the university...

The North Side

The North Side is the main student space within the Students' Union. It is split into three main spaces; This End, That End, and The Pillars.

  • This End is a social space for all students to use throughout the day. It cannot be booked and any bookings in other spaces must account for potential of noise bleedthrough from any activity in the space.
  • That End is a semi-private space which can be booked. It has a large main projector and speakers, ideal for presentations or workshops.
  • The Pillars is a workspace for students which can be booked just like That End, and has a large TV/computer which can be used for presentations and workshops. Surrounding the Pillars are small meeting rooms which can be booked.

Please note that all of these spaces are semi-private and as such there is the potential for noise bleedthrough on events.

Risk Assessments

If your event is one of the following then you will be required to fill out a risk assessment: large scale events, non-SU activities, any activity requiring food, and any activity with external speakers. If you are unsure of how to do this, please send us an email on roombookings-ussu@salford.ac.uk.

Food and Catering

If you are planning on booking food for your event, please give at least 2-3 weeks’ notice, particularly for larger events.

Atmosphere Food Orders - If you have asked for Atmosphere to provide tea/coffee or snacks at your event, we will forward your booking information to Atmosphere. Please be advised that any food/drink will be invoiced to you direct. If you are a society then the society will be invoiced.

External takeaway – You will need to include food safety information and hygiene ratings, and a risk assessment form.

External caterer – If you are using an external caterer you will need to provide personal liability insurance, food safety qualifications of the organisation, their own Risk Assessment, and their council star rating.

External Speakers

Any bookings with external speakers (any speaker who is not a current Salford SU / UoS student or staff member) must have an approved Freedom of Speech form. We will not confirm bookings with external speakers until a Freedom of Speech form has been submitted and approved. You can find the form on the Freedom of Speech page, accessible via the button above..

If a booking is made by any affiliated Union group and they would like to invite an external person onto campus to participate in any event/meeting, a Freedom of Speech form must be completed. This is in line with the University's Code of Practice for the Freedom of Speech. Any external speaker coming in to a Union owned space, regardless of who has booked it, must also go through this process.

The Students’ Union also has a policy document on managing external speakers as well as a briefing for society members and an agreement for external speakers. You should make sure that you have read these documents and are clear about them.

Please complete the form below to request an external speaker for an event/meeting. The form must be submitted no later than fifteen working days prior to the event/meeting. You should not promote the meeting on any platform prior to approval being granted. The Union would recommend that a Freedom of Speech request is made with as much time as possible before the event is due to take place.

Please note that any event which is open to the public must go through the University's Conference Office. Please contact the Student Opportunities team if you are thinking about hosting an event which will be open to members of the public. If you are unsure of the Freedom of Speech process, or wish to host a public event, please contact the Student Opportunities Team.
