About Us

We represent the interests of students who want to learn how to DJ or take their current skills to the next stage. We provide networking, equipment, support and tuition to our members on campus. The society also organises and promotes regular and special events on and off campus to provide entertainment to students and experience for our members to play to an appreciative crowd. Every level of experience is welcome: from those with some experience looking for new opportunities, to complete novices who want to give it a go! The committee of DJSoc are highly experienced from playing at SU events like REC and Atmosfear, Revolutions & Shock Radio: check the Commitee DJ tab along the top to find out more.

What we have to offer:

  • Our open jams are the regular weekly activity we have on campus. These are a great way to hone your skills using the club standard kit of Atmosphere and socialise with other student DJs. Got some new music you want to play? Practising for an upcoming gig? Trying out a new style and see how it goes? The open jams are exactly the thing for you!
  • Alongside the open jams we will also be running workshops where you can learn key techniques and build confidence. For the first trimester we'll be covering the basics of DJing from signal flow and beatmatching to using the players and particular mixing techniques. This will also be available to students through the "Give It A Go" scheme, so if you aren't sure if you want to commit then come down on these workshops and see how you feel - you might well have the confidence to come back for more! In the second trimester, the workshops will expand to more advanced and specialist topics or for particular people. This will include turntablism, mixing in different styles like Hip Hop/indie etc, and workshops for certain groups who are under represented in the DJ community.
  • The society regularly performs on and off campus and we run our own events for the students in Salford to enjoy. Our committee play at classic student events like REC Night and Atmosfear. We also are looking to run events outside of campus which can be more specialised than the typical student playlist, so if you have an idea for an event and you can provide the crowd, we'd love to hear it.

What you get with the membership:

  • Access to student union equipment in our open jams and our workshops throughout the year.
  • Having the chance of playing in the guest slot of Encore after Bandaoke.
  • Fund our long term projects such as speaker systems and equipment for the society.
