Firstly, congrats on becoming a Course Rep, and a big warm welcome to the community. We’re super excited to have you on board. Students have the right to be listened to, provided opportunities to make change and have an input into decision-making; this is YOUR University.
Don’t worry if you little or no experience – we just need you to want to make a difference– you’ll be fully trained and have plenty of support from Salford SU. It’s a great opportunity to get stuck in, make change, meet people, and not to mention you’ll gain a ton of experience.
Below you'll find loads of handy information aimed at making your role as easy as possible.
A BIG THANK YOU for taking on the role and if you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch via our email: student-representation@salford.ac.uk.
Rep Training
As a Course Rep you will be required to complete training that will provide you with all the information and tools you will need to thrive in your role. Once your Programme Leader registers you as a Course Rep, we will be in touch to let you know about training. These will either take place as live sessions or you will be provided with a recorded training session and a quiz to complete. Once you are trained, we will let your School know that you are ready to start your Course Rep duties.
Resources and Feedback
Current course rep guidance:
In addition to the training you will have the opportunity to meet with the Student Officer who represents your school as well as the School Reps (see names below) who have been appointed to represent student voices at a top level within each school and support you in your role as a Course Rep. Details of any meetings will be emailed out in advance and we would encourage you to attend as many as you can - this is your chance to ask questions and provide feedback, advocating for your course.
Current School Reps
While Course Reps represent everyone on a particular level of a programme, School Reps identify and act on the key issues affecting students across multiple programmes in the same subject area. They also work with their fellow School Reps and their Associate Dean for Student Experience to tackle issues that affect all students in their school. They work closely with their Course Reps to find out what the issues are and then work together with the Students’ Union Student Officers and University staff to find a positive solution.
School Reps are also Library Champions too! They have access to a library budget and can request books and resources to be ordered on your behalf. Please contact your School Rep to find out more. You can find the full list of School Reps for the current academic year below:

*Current vacancies for School Rep positions mean that the elected Student Officer for the relevant school will be more involved in Student-led change for these areas. If you are a Course Rep where a School rep vacancy exists, please contact your Student Officer if you would like to raise any issue, ideas or note any trends.
