Contact Bea (b.beaton1@salford.ac.uk), on our Change and Engage team, for more details on starting a campaign.

Step 1: Establish your main aims – This could be one big aim, or up to three smaller ones that contribute to an overall campaign objective. These aims need to be measurable (by the end of the campaign, you need to be able to measure how successful it was).
Step 2: Who can help – Think about who you need to successfully execute your campaign. Speak to Bea on our Change and Engage team, to find out what staff members at the university and the SU can help you. They can also help you create a student taskforce – there are most likely other students like you who want the campaign to be successful to create change!
Step 3: Planning and timelines – It’s good to have key time stamps for your campaign to aim for and spread the duties that you need to do to successfully carry out the campaign. Use your planning meetings to figure these out and create a campaign timeline. You can then delegate tasks to help reach these time stamps.
Step 4: Publicity – When Bea helps you design your campaign they will also link you up with our Marketing and Comms team at the SU. We will help you to figure out the best communications plan tailored to the campaign, this could include – social media scheduling, on-campus engagement activations, eye-catching digital screens and more.
Step 5: Be aware of the barriers – At the SU we will try and help you to the best of our abilities to carry out your campaign, but sometimes some aims are a bit out of our reach as an organisation! So, together, we can manage expectations, assess what barriers could slow down campaign aims and think of other wins that can act as fall backs – e.g. spreading awareness to issues to new areas of our student community.
