To submit an Exceptional Circumstances request, fill out the form found here: https://sss.salford.ac.uk/
If something serious has happened that stopped you doing your best in any kind of assessment, you can follow the Exceptional Circumstances (EC) procedure. This could be an illness or a personal issue.
When completing the EC form, it is essential that you clearly explain what your circumstances are and how they affected your ability to complete or perform well in your assessment(s). You should describe the situation in enough detail so that the person reviewing your request understands your reasons.
If you can include evidence of your situation, this could help. You can self-certify for one EC each term, for any further ECs, you will need to provide supporting evidence.
It needs to be submitted within 10 working days (not including weekends) of the assignment deadline or date of the assessment. It is important you explain what has happened and why it has stopped you doing your best in the assessment.

Important Points to Consider:
	- Late-submission or deferred assessment attempt? If you apply for late submission, this means you need to submit within 7 days of your deadline. If you won’t be able to do that, then a deferred assessment attempt may be more appropriate. Keep in mind that this could affect your graduation date or visa if you are an international student.
- Evidence Based or Self Certified? If you can get evidence of your exceptional circumstances, you should use it. This is because you can only have one self-certified EC each term, and you might need it for something urgent later.
- Is your evidence date specific? Evidence should show that your circumstance was affecting you immediately before or on your assessment date. Evidence dated long before or after your deadline may not be accepted.
- If in doubt, speak to someone: You can book an appointment with a Students’ Union Advisor using this link: SU Advice Centre
